DoubleVision® Pro User Guide
1. Installing DoubleVision Pro

DoubleVision Pro installs as a 30-day free
evaluation. This full working copy allows you to evaluate DoubleVision Pro –
and decide you can’t live without it. After 30 days, this license will expire.
You may convert the 30-day license to a permanent license at
any time. Please see Chapter 2, Licensing DoubleVision Pro for more
information.
After installing DoubleVision Pro, it is recommended that
you review the Readme file for the most current product information. You will
find this file located at C:\Program Files\DVPro\README.txt.

1.2 Installing Over a Previous Release on
Windows
To install a new release of DoubleVision Pro over a current
version, simply follow the normal installation instructions. DoubleVision Pro
will detect the existing version during the installation process and will
automatically uninstall the old version for you before proceeding with the
installation of the new release.
Using a DoubleVision Pro connection to update the
DoubleVision Pro software running on the host machine is not supported. For
example, John is using DoubleVision Pro as the remote and connects to a host
also running DoubleVision Pro. If John were to run the latest DVPro.exe
installation on the host machine to update the version, the installation would
be incomplete.

Verify the system name provided, then enter a description. The description may
be left blank, if desired.

Click Next to continue.
10.
Select the authentication method for DoubleVision Pro to use.

s
NTLM (Microsoft Authentication): DoubleVision
Pro authenticates the username and password against a Microsoft Domain or local
database, eliminating the need for a separate local password on every system.
DoubleVision Pro uses the same login id and password used to log on to the
network. NTLM authentication can be
used both in an NT domain environment as well as on a standalone Windows NT,
2000 or XP system.
Note: If you choose the
NTLM option, the installation creates an empty Windows User Group called
DVProUsers. After the installation is complete, an administrator must add users
to this group to enable them to view the computer through DoubleVision Pro.
s
LDAP/NDS: DoubleVision Pro authenticates against
a server running either the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) or
Novell Directory Services (NDS).
s
Local Computer Password (VNC Style): Each host
system has its own password that must be entered by the remote user trying to
view. Use this option if you want DoubleVision Pro authentication to use
separate passwords from Microsoft (NTLM) authentication.
s
No Authentication Required: For those in a
secure network environment who do not want the remote user to need a password
to view the host system. This option is strongly discouraged for any system
connected to the Internet or any other public network.
Click Next to continue.
11.
This step depends on which method you chose in Step 10.
A. If you chose the NTLM option in Step 10, you
are asked if the computer is running Microsoft Terminal Server.

Click Yes or No to continue.
The Installation program then asks if you want to
use Bi-level Authentication Security, which is recommended.

Click Yes to choose
Bi-level Authentication or No to use Standard Authentication.
B. If you chose LDAP/NDS in Step 10, you are asked
to enter configuration information for the LDAP/NDS server to be used for
authentication.

See the topic titled Security
in Section 5.1.4.2, Options for a description of the LDAP configuration
data.
Enter the information and click Next
to continue.
C. If you choose the Local Computer Password
option in Step 10, you are prompted to specify whether you want to use a
central password for the computer (recommended) or allow per-user passwords.
Per-user passwords are supported for users who are upgrading from DoubleVision
Pro versions earlier than 4.0. If per-user passwords are selected, each user
can set his or her own VNC password in addition to the computer's default VNC
password. See Section 3.1.1.2, Edit WinVNC Server Settings.

Choose an option and
click Next.
You are asked to enter
the VNC password. (If you choose Central Host Password, this will be the one
password for the computer. If you choose Support for Per User Passwords, this
will be the default password for the computer.)
Note: If you are
installing an update to DoubleVision Pro and a VNC password already exists on
the computer, you are not prompted to enter one now. To change the VNC password
after installation, see Section 3.1.1.3, Set VNC Password.

Type the password twice, then
click OK to continue.
12.
You are asked if you want to start Host Mode now. Choose Yes
if you want this computer to be viewed as a host as soon as the
installation process is complete.

13.
The installation is now complete. Click Finish to close
the InstallShield Wizard. There is no need to reboot your computer.

Custom INSTALLATION
If you choose Custom as the setup
type (in Step 4 of the preceding procedure) you are presented with additional
options. Use these options to configure DoubleVision Pro for use with Tridia
Internet Access Server or to choose other advanced settings.
Select Components
Use this dialog to control which
components of DoubleVision Pro are installed.

Remote Control Port Number
You can specify the port that
DoubleVision Pro uses for encrypted remote control.

NT User Group
If you choose NTLM as the
authentication method, the Custom installation lets you specify the name of the
Windows (NT) user group. After the installation is complete, an administrator
must add users to this group to enable them to view the computer through
DoubleVision Pro. The default name is DVProUsers.

Configure Internet Access Server
The Custom installation asks
if you want to configure a connection to Tridia Internet Access Server (TIAS).
TIAS allows DoubleVision Pro to
remotely view and control Windows computers behind firewalls over the Internet
without opening ports. The TIAS software is installed on a server outside the
firewall and relays the connection between the remote and host computers.
1.
Click Yes to configure the connection to TIAS.

2.
Enter the configuration data for the server where you have
installed Tridia’s TIAS software.

s
TIAS:
The IP address or DNS name of the TIAS server.
s
TIAS Port:
The server port configured to use TIAS.
3.
You are asked whether the computer should connect to the TIAS
server at system startup.
Click Yes or No.
4.
You are asked whether you want the computer to connect to the
TIAS now.
Click Yes or No.
Importing a Registry File
The Custom installation asks
if you want to import a custom registry file. Registry files are used to enable
custom DoubleVision Pro settings on start up. This option is recommended for
advanced users only.
Automatic or Manual Host Mode
The Custom installation asks
if you want to automatically enable remote viewing (host mode) at system
startup.

s
Click Yes to automatically enable host mode.
s
Click No to require host mode to be selected
manually on this computer.
1.4 Using Silent Install for Automated
Installation
The “silent install” option, powered by InstallShield,
allows you to automate DoubleVision Pro installation on Windows computers by
recording an InstallShield response file. With silent install, you do not need
to monitor the installation process and provide input through dialog boxes.
Instead, all of the input is contained in the response file.
Recording the Response File
A response file is a text file with a .ISS extension. Its
format is similar to a Windows .INI file, with sections containing data
entries.
You create a response file by installing DoubleVision Pro
and recording the responses to all dialog boxes. Keep in mind that these
responses will be used for every installation that runs from the response file.
To record the response file, you start DVPro.exe with a command line
switch.
1.
Open the Windows Command Prompt and change to the directory
that contains DVPro.exe.
2.
Enter the following command at the prompt:
DVPro.exe
-a -r
3.
Complete the installation process, choosing the options you
want to repeat with the automated install.
When the installation is complete, the response
file is saved as setup.iss in the Windows directory (C:\WINNT or C:\Windows,
depending on the operating system).
Running an Automated Install
After the .ISS file is created, you can copy it to your
network or to other computers as needed. To run an automated install, do the
following:
1.
Open the Windows Command Prompt on the computer where you want
to install DoubleVision Pro.
2.
Enter the following command at the prompt:
DVPro.exe
-a -s -f1"<path>"
Where <path> is the full path to the
location of the .ISS file. The path must be in quotes.
The installation runs and the options stored
in the response file are used.
Setup Log File
When you run an automated installation, no dialogs or status
messages are displayed. Instead, a log file is created with information about
the installation. You can review this log file to determine the result of the
installation.
By default, the log file is called setup.log and is created
in the same location as the .ISS file. You can change the name and location
using the command line switches discussed below.
The third section of the log file, labeled [ResponseResult],
contains one of the following result codes, indicating whether or not the
silent installation succeeded.

1.7 Before Installing on UNIX/Linux
The DoubleVision Pro UNIX version runs on a UNIX or Linux
server and enables viewing and remote control of terminal sessions running on
that server. This section provides information to consider prior to installing
DoubleVision Pro on UNIX or Linux.
1.7.1 Installing over a Previous Release on UNIX/Linux
To install a new release of DoubleVision Pro over a previous
release on a UNIX or Linux server, simply follow the normal installation
instructions. The new DoubleVision Pro software will replace the existing copy,
prompting you to save old files if you have made modifications. DoubleVision
Pro's Reboot Wizard will automatically detect if you need to relink the kernel
and reboot the server.
1.7.2 Relinking the Kernal
Since DoubleVision Pro uses a special device driver, the
kernel may need to be relinked during the installation process. If your
operating system has been installed properly, you should have no problem
relinking the kernel. However, sometimes the operating system may not be completely
installed, or is incorrectly installed, preventing the kernel from relinking.
The following instructions will allow you to determine if your kernel will
relink properly when installing DoubleVision Pro.
AIX or SOLARIS
These versions of UNIX do not require relinking of the
kernel.
SCO
1. Login as the root
