DoubleVision Pro Windows Module Release 4.1 Last Update: March 23, 2004 RELEASE NOTES ================================================================== THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS VERY IMPORTANT. SOME OF THIS INFORMATION SUPERSEDES THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE USER'S GUIDE. IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT YOU READ THESE RELEASE NOTES COMPLETELY BEFORE INSTALLING OR USING DOUBLEVISION PRO. ****************************************************************** ****** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 4.1.00 **************** ************************* Mar 23, 2004 *************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem where if a TVNCPro node appears on a DVPro U/I incorrect icons would be displayed on the network topology tree and on the right hand display panel. 2- Solved the problem where a TIAS node that has active sessions could not be deleted. 3- Users are now prompted before deleting a TIAS node that has active connections to confirm if they wish to close the connections before the deletion takes place. 4- Informative message is now displayed when users try to perform a remote install or host mode schedule on a node which is connected over a TIAS server. These 2 features are not supported on nodes which are connected onto a TIAS server due to protocol issues. 5- Solved the problem where at random the Manager would freeze when loading a .ncn file. REMOTE INSTALL ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved a reported Remote Install problem. Local authentication on the host was failing if the domain account, using the same login id, had a different password from the local host account. 2- Solved a reported Remote Install problem. Some internal enhancements were made to better communicate with the host PC system task scheduler. ****************************************************************** ****** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 4.0.01 **************** ************************ Feb 27, 2004 **************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Once you store a password for a tty, you cannot wipe it out. This issue has been resolved. 2- Solved the problem were at times if a user entered a new node, the error 'Could not add node' would appear. 3- Solved the problem where at times the user's password would not be saved even if the user had selected to 'save the password' when viewing tty's. 4- Solved the problem where the Encodings dialog was reverting back the current encoding to hextile when auto encoding was selected. 5- If the user edits the connection setting for a given node and then decides to exit, the manager fails to prompt the user to save the changes to the .ncn file. 6- Solved the problem where we would not set the debug mode flag when viewing tty's. We were not enabling the server debug flag. This problem has been resolved. 7- The command line options are now being passed to the Viewer process during an initial session view. 8- When the NCN file extension is registered with the OS in DVPro, the icon used is on an old "VP" icon with a yellow V and a white P on a blue background. We are now using the product icon. 9- The Java icon no longer appears in warning dialogs. 10- Options are grayed out: Manager -> Tools -> Options -> Remote Install These are grayed out on Win2K *and* WinXP when I'm logged in as the Administrator. This bug has been fixed. 11- Solved bug where some gui menu items were not properly initialized. 12- Verified that the configuration option "do not display 'other nodes'" is working within the current session. 13- Typing in the wrong password does not always garner an error message. Many times it simply is ignored. Meaning nothing happens. This issue has been solved. 14- Networks are scanned even after its network node is removed form the network topology (RECLASSIFIED). This issue has been fixed. 15- Resolved a bug where we are off by one day in calculating the evaluation days remaining. Specifically, the expiration date. 16- Improved our DNS look up scheme. We will no longer hang when a user presses 'ok' after entering a DNS + ip name combination. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- If you set the "maxHostPermissions" and HostPermissions" to 0000FFFD with "showAllowSessionDialog" set to 00000000, then restart host mode and connect from a remote, the connector.exe will cause a SEGV (application exception). INSTALLER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Removed the licensing shortcut options when "Host" only components are installed. Prior releases had defunct shortcuts for licensing options. ****************************************************************** ****** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 4.0.00 **************** ************************ Jan 30, 2004 **************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- DoubleVision Pro has completed the BETA phase. 2- Changed help file name. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added ability to include FormatMessage output with GetLastError result. PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added ability to include FormatMessage output with GetLastError result. ****************************************************************** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.23 ************************ Oct 31, 2003 **************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem where regular users could not gain access to the Main->Tools->Options->Security input panel. 2- Manager no longer saves transient nodes such as those found under Unix node or IAS server. 3- Solved the problem where if a terminal emulation session was active and the user selected the 'x' icon to exit, the prompt would appear and after the user selected to shutdown or not, the session would still be killed. 4- We now support localized versions of Administrators ids. 5- Solved the problem where members of the Administrative group were not given permissions to view the host system on which they performed the install. 6- Solve the problem where the terminal emulation package did not invoke help correctly ( Under Main->Help->Topics ). 7- Correct help descriptions now appear under the terminal emulation package's "Help about" menu option. 8- All scroll bars are now turned off by default to increase performance within the terminal emulation package. 9- Solved the problem where some of the Mouse cursor options ( dialog ) found under Connections where not being set correctly. 10- The same problem above was solved for the command line options -nocursorshape and -noremotecursor for which their meanings were backwards. 11- When a user selects to remote control a terminal which already has a remote control session running from the manager, the manager automatically brings to the foreground that remote control session. 12- Solved the problem where if the vnc password is updated on the manager and it was not being updated on the vnc server. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved an issue in the "connect to IAS" mode that was preventing the connection options dialog from being displayed on some systems, even when an end-user was logged in. PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Switched the default configuration of the permission groups to include the both the domain and built-in Administrators groups as well as the Administrator user. Also updated the group and user access method to better support localized environments. 2- Added support for built-in alias groups in the access permission group. For example, the "BUILTIN\Administrators" alias can now be used in the DVProUsers and TIASUsers groups to confer access permission. ****************************************************************** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.22 ************************ Oct 17, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- All input forms were improved in misc manners. INSTALLER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem where the IAS port number and server name would be incorrect after the unattended installation. 2- Solved the problem where an older msvcrt.dll would not be updated by a later release msvcrt.dll contained in our distribution. 3- Set our icon in Add/Remove Programs on Win2000 or higher. 4- Resolved a problem where a recorded unattended install that skips the selection of a license file would fail during the unattended playback. The resulting error code is "-3" which can be found in the installation log file. LICENSING ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved misc licensing problems relating to demo keys. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Corrected a general service launch issue. Among other things, this was causing the WinVNC.exe server to display the dialog "Another instance of WinVNC is already running.". Services are now started more reliably and more quickly. 2- Fixed an issue with the connect to IAS mode where a dialog was displayed to the user instead of entering the retry mechanism after certain types of disconnection. 3- Updated the service installation and configuration to work better on Windows 2003 Server. 4- Added support for connection monitoring (verifying session status) to automatically detect a loss of connectivity when there is otherwise no network traffic on the session. This feature is sometimes known as "keep alive" and imposes a slight overhead in ongoing network traffic. The "VerifySession" feature is primarily useful in conjunction with the automatic connection retries in "Connect to IAS" mode. However, you can enable and disable "VerifySession" as well as set the timeout or retry interval for IAS and direct sessions independently. As you can see below, the default timeouts are set for 120 seconds. Also, the IAS "VerifySession" feature is enabled by default and the direct feature is disabled by default. HKLM\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Connector "directVerifySessionFlag"=dword:00000000 HKLM\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Connector "directVerifySessionTimeout"=dword:00000078 HKLM\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Connector "iasVerifySessionFlag"=dword:00000001 HKLM\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Connector "iasVerifySessionTimeout"=dword:00000078 The network overhead involved is approximately equal to one TCP packet in each direction for each timeout interval for each active session. 5- Solved 'there is another instance of WinVNC.exe' problem. PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Corrected a general service launch issue. Among other things, this was causing the WinVNC.exe server to display the dialog "Another instance of WinVNC is already running.". Services are now started more reliably and more quickly. WINVNC UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Changed the default polling options to be "Poll Windows Under Cursor", "Poll Foreground Window" and "Poll On Event Received Only". VNCVIEWER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Corrected a cosmetic issue in the options dialog. The ZLIB and JPEG options are now enabled only when they apply to the selected encoding. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.20 *************** ************************* Aug 14, 2003 **************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Regular users will no longer receive License File or Key errors when starting the Manager. The problem was solved by minimizing writes to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry hive. Regular users do not have "Write" access to this portion of the registry by default. 2- Solved problem where the Manager would, at times, loose the proper viewer encoding. INSTALLER ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Problem solved where if the user only installed the host OR the remote distribution of the application, ftp would not work. 2- The product installer will now shut down and remove the WinVNC service when the "Host files" component is selected. This action is being taken to prevent fatal conflicts with third party WinVNC servers. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Resolved internal bug that was causing intermittent process exceptions during service startup and shutdown on WinXP. PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Resolved internal bug that was causing intermittent process exceptions during service startup and shutdown on WinXP. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.18 *************** ************************* July 14, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** CONNECTOR CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved a problem causing the Connector Direct service to exit on WinXP when the Administrator forcibly logs out a non-admin user via the locked screen saver. PROCESSOR CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved a problem causing the Controller service to exit on WinXP when the Administrator forcibly logs out a non-admin user via the locked screen saver. WINVNC CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved a problem causing the WinVNC service to exit on WinXP when the Administrator forcibly logs out a non-admin user via the locked screen saver. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.17 *************** ************************* July 10, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- The manager would hang on when LicenseData.txt file is present and spaces exist after the license key. This issue has been resolved. 2- According to the README.txt, the "Quick Connect" ("-Q") option will store multiple host/port strings from previous connections. The number of previous connection string is supposed to be given by "Mgr\ViewHistorySize". 3- Text update now appear when the Manager is lauched in direct connect mode. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- The tray icon now changes to show when one or more session(s) is(are) active. 2- Added support for the active sessions dialog. This allows the host user to see a list of all active sessions, including the authenticated remote user name, the remote host name and the duration of the session. Finally, the host user can selectively close any active session. Simply double-click the tray icon to launch the active sessions dialog. 3- Fixed the bug causing the allow session dialog to be displayed when a connect to IAS session is established. 4- Fixed the problem where the connector direct service would be reported to have "hung" during startup in the event log by the SCM. PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved the bug which caused the processor.exe to have an exception when launched in debug mode. 2- Added a way to specify the "system log server" as with the connector.exe. This allows the configuration of which system should be sent event log updates: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\DVWin\Processor] "systemLogServer"="" WINVNC SERVER AND VNCVIEWER ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- These binaries will resolve one of the bugs I logged in version 2.0.15, which is that the "allow view only" option in the allow session dialog failed because the WinVNC.exe was not updated to understand the new win32 messages for that. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.16 *************** ************************** July 2, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** 1- Added the 'Quick Connect' user interface option. If the manager is invoked with the -Q command line option, instead of displaying the entire user interface, only a small dialog is presented to the user. At this point a target host to view can be entered. The host string can be in any of the following formats : ip:port dns name:port dns name -- use the default port, 21800 ip:0..99 -- will be mapped to a VNC port in the range of 5900 .. 5999 a history is kept of the last 5 viewed hosts. The number of hosts viewed is user configurable via the registry under the key : HKCU\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Mgr\ViewHistorySize The history is always maintained such that any 'views' via this option or via the regular Manager interface are maintained. In addition all the viewer configuration options are available just as in the 'QuickView' option within the full manager. The history list proper can be found under : HKCU\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Mgr\ViewHistory1...NNN 2- Command line connection interface enhanced. The Manager now displays progress messages as users connect via the command line to host systems. These messages will also be displayed when in debug mode for further diagnostic purposes. The messages can be used to turn drive the application via other scripts and or programs that can check for success or error conditions. The messages above and be turned off of on via the following registry key : HKCU\Software\Tridia\DVPro\Mgr\EnableDirectConnectMessages CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added a new "Active Sessions" dialog that shows which sessions are currently active, including the authorized user name and the duration of the session. Also, the host user can shutdown or terminate any or all active sessions from this dialog. INSTALLER ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- The installation program now removes any WinVNC services before installing the new service. This is done to minimize any conflicts with other VNC servers. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.15 *************** ************************** Jun 24, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the licensing problem where non-licensable nodes were being counted as licensable nodes. This would cause licensing error to appear when on a network with many nodes. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.14 *************** ************************** Jun 24, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Lower level virtual tunnel (VPN) error messages are now supressed except when debug mode is enabled. 2- The famous 'Connecting' dialog box is now automatically removed even in the event of an error. 3- Added the 'Scale fit to window' option to the viewer settings. 4- Correct some error messages displayed when deleting group nodes. 5- Solved the problemw where an IAS Server node would be demoted down to a segment node when inserting any node with similar ip ranges. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTICE: This new feature changes the default behavior of DoubleVision Pro. NOTICE: By default, the host user will be prompted to allow new sessions. NOTICE: For stealth operations, see the updated "config\DVPro_Stealth.reg" and NOTICE: "config\DVPro_StealthMonitor.reg" files. 1- Added the ability to query the host system user for permission to allow each new session.......... 2- Added the ability to query the host system user for permission to allow each new session. The allow session dialog displays the remote user's authenticated name (if using NTLM or LDAP), host name and system IP address. This feature can be disabled and the dialog can be given a timeout with independant session permissions granted based on which condition applies. If the user rejects the new session, then no permissions are enabled and the connection is dropped. Sessions permissions are enabled using a bit field with one bit for each service permitted: Value Name Description 0 None Specifies that no permissions are enabled. This will cause the session to be rejected... 1 Command Allows remote accces. Required for all sessions. 2 View Allows remote user to view the desktop. 4 RC Allows remote user to send keyboard and mouse input. 8 Telnet Allows telnet access to the host system (Unix only). 16 FTP Allows remote user to transfer files. The default settings are as follows: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\DVPro\Connector] "defaultHostPermissions"=dword:0000ffff "maxHostPermissions"=dword:0000ffff "timeoutHostPermissions"=dword:0000ffff "nouserHostPermissions"=dword:0000ffff "showAllowSessionDialog"=dword:00000001 "allowSessionDialogTimeout"=dword:0000001e "showAllowSessionDialog" can enable or disable ("0") the dialog completely. If the dialog is disabled, then the "defaultHostPermissions" take effect. If there is no user logged into the host system when the session is initiated, then the "nouserHostPermissions" take effect. 3- Added support for "startSysLogMask", "stopSysLogMask" and "allowSysLogMask" to control NT event logging for host mode start up, shutdown and host user accept and reject notices. You can enable and disable NT event logging by setting the following flags to one ("1") to enable and event type and zero ("0") to disable it. You can also specify where the NT events should be logged using "systemLogServer": [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\DVPro\Connector] "systemLogServer"="" "connectSysLogMask"=dword:00000001 "disconnSysLogMask"=dword:00000001 "startSysLogMask"=dword:00000001 "stopSysLogMask"=dword:00000001 "allowSysLogMask"=dword:00000001 EVENTLISTER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added a new console program, "eventlister.exe" to dump remote control events to a text file. These events can be found in the NT event log. This program copies the events from the NT application log into the specified text file. See "eventlister.exe -help" for supported command line options. The following event IDs are supported. These events are written to the event log by the connector.exe and processor.exe under the specified circumstances. 101 Session network connect. 102 Session network disconnect. 103 Host mode started. 104 Host mode stopped. 201 Remote user authentication success. 202 Remote user authentication failure. 203 Remote user log off. 204 Host user accepted new session. 205 Host user rejected new session. VNCVIEWER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Added "Fit Window" mode to automatically scale the host system desktop image to fit into that vncviewer window size setup by the user. 2- Added support for configuring "softkeys" through the vncviewer system popup menu. Each softkey has a "Name" plus various "EventID"s with a down (or up) flag for each event. In order to specify multiple modifier keys, both the down and up events must be configured separately. The event IDs are taken from the X protocol key symbols, which are used natively by the RFB protocol. [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Avocent\ShadowIT\VNCViewer\Settings] "SoftKey_0_Name"="Send _star_" "SoftKey_0_EventID_0"=dword:0000002a "SoftKey_0_EventID_1"=dword:0000002a "SoftKey_0_Down_0"=dword:00000001 "SoftKey_0_Down_1"=dword:00000000 "SoftKey_1_Name"="Send _pound_" "SoftKey_1_EventID_0"=dword:00000023 "SoftKey_1_EventID_1"=dword:00000023 "SoftKey_1_Down_0"=dword:00000001 "SoftKey_1_Down_1"=dword:00000000 ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.13 *************** ********************** Jun 12, 2003 ****************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem where the password of one .ncn would be copied to another .ncn file if the second did not have a password to begin with. 2- Solved the problem where if a file on the the C: named C:\Program was present (probably due to some prior corruption), the Manager was not able to lauch the connector.exe. 3- Solved the problem where it is possible to get an error -2995 when viewing an IAS node. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved a problem in the response to broadcast packet discovery mechanism (host browse). This will now report the currently available hosts more reliably. 2- Extended the service startup timeout estimate. On some systems, the connector.exe service would appear to hang during startup at boot time due to dependancies on other subsystems. To avoid getting spurious error messages in the event log, the startup time estimate was extended to allow for worst case startup performance. INSTALL ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem dealing with license file path prompt during silent installs. The recorded install was not writing the selected license file and path to the setup.iss file. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.12 *************** *************************** Jun 6, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Fixed the problem where if a user, while adding a new node, provided a valid DNS and IP combination, the dialog box would not go away. 2- Solved the same problem but it would occur when adding new IAS Networks. 3- Solved potential network topology tree corruption while inserting new nodes or IAS Network nodes. 4- Added the option for a user to add UNIX nodes without having to know the preconfigured port number. This can be found under : main->Edit->Add->Unix Node 5- Solve a license problem where a 2.0.11 licensed system could not view 2.0.12 licensed system. This was a development error. License upgrades are only required if the version goes to 2.1.XX or higher. This problem has been corrected. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added "-configureSilent" to allow for independant control of the silent option passed to services being installed. To install a service to run in the silent configuration, use "-configureSilent 1" on the "-installManual" or "-installStartup" command line. 2- Added support for configurable retry policy in the connect to IAS mode. The number of retries allowed as well as the wait period between the retries can now be configured on the command line or via the windows registry. The "connectToIASCycleTime" controls the time interval between retries and is given in milliseconds. The default is to retry the connection to the IAS server every five minutes (300000 ms) and to continue for 24 hours (288 times). [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\DVPro\Connector] "connectToIASCycleTime"=dword:000493e0 "connectToIASMaxRetries"=dword:00000120 3- Enhanced error reporting for failed connection to IAS. 4- Added support for automatically launching host mode when connect to IAS is invoked manually. Also, added support for dynamically launching host mode when the first proxy connection (from the IAS) is opened. 5- Added "endToEndKeepAlive" to allow for the selection of standard TCP keep alive packets on the end-to-end connections (encrypted sockets). This is a boolean setting whose default is false/"0" which prevents keep alive packets. You can enable this setting from the windows registry or from the command line ("-endToEndKeepAlive 1"): [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Tridia\DVPro\Connector] "endToEndKeepAlive"=dword:00000000 PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Fixed problem with desktop optimizations being applied for IAS sessions. 2- Added support for expanded host system configuration information. 3- Resolved a problem where the desktop optimizations (including disabling active desktop) were not applied correctly when a user logged in after a remote control session was already active. Now the desktop optimizations are applied when the connection occurs (if a user is already logged in) or when the user first logs in. VNCVIEWER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Added "fit window" mode to provide automatic scaling to windows size. INSTALLER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Resolved issue with the incorrect registry name of the IAS host name. ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.11 *************** ************************** May 31, 2003 ************************** ****************************************************************** 1- Added support for DoubleVision Internet Access Server ( IAS ). USER INTERFACE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added support for IAS. Now users can connect to an IAS server and from there view the list of nodes that are available for viewing, etc. 2- Resolved the bug where the "Ok" button would not work under the menu: main->tools->options The "Ok" button would not respond after making "Options" changes. This has been resolved. 3- Fixed the problem where if a user while adding a new node, provided a valid dns and ip combination, the dialog box would not go away. 4- Solved the same problem but it would occur when adding new IAS Networks. 5- Solved potential network topology tree corruption while inserting new nodes or IAS Network nodes. CONNECTOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Enhanced error reporting for failed connection to IAS. 2- Added support for automatically launching host mode when connect to IAS is invoked manually. Also added support for dynamically launching host mode when the first proxy connection7 (from the IAS) is opened. 3- Resolved multiple connection conflict causing instability on heavily loaded networks or in the presence of inconsistent network throughput, such as over the Internet. PROCESSOR UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Fixed problem with desktop optimizations being applied for IAS sessions. 2- Added support for expanded host system configuration information. VNCVIEWER UPDATES -------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Added "fit window" mode to provide automatic scaling to windows size. INSTALLER UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Resolved issue with the registry name of the IAS host name. 2- Added the redistributable Microsoft file "msvcp60.dll". 3- Added the ability to launch the connection to IAS during the "custom" segment of the installation. ****************************************************************** ************* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.00 ********* *********************** May 19, 2003 ***************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem where Dial-up networks would become duplicates by accident. 2- Solved the problem where new Network would not appear in ascending order on the network tree. 3- Added support under the 'Properties' menu for Dial-up nodes. IAS Servers, and IAS Nodes as well. 4- Added updated icons. 5- Solved the problem where if one tried to 'blank' the password of a .ncn file, it would not work and still use the previous password. 6- New improved help file was included. 7- Fixed the problem where the help file could not be loaded when selected via: Main->Help->Topics ****************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.00 *************** *********************** May 15, 2003 ***************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- When prompting for the user name/passwords for terminal devices, the user now can conditionally have the credentials saved across the session by selecting the proper check box on the dialog box. 2- Storing of 'root' user's password in the .ncn file has been made configurable via a registry setting. Registry setting path is: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Tridia\Mgr\AllowRootPasswdInTty Binary ( boolean ) value, 0 = do not store root password, 1 = can store root passwords. 3- Solved the problem where the dial-up icon on the 'right' hand side panel would become visible if the user clicked on the dial-up column. This was misleading since 'non-dialup' nodes would also see the dial-up icon appear. 4- The user interface now handle the case of when the user decided to exit without disconnecting from the modem. Now the user is given a choice to wait from the modem to disconnect OR to exit withtout waiting. 5- Solved the problem where it was possible for the Manager (user interface) to exit without disconnecting from a dialed up site. 6- Users are now informed of when they are trying to exit the Manager and have not disconnected from all active dialed-out sesions. If the user agrees to exit, all sessions are then automatically disconnected. 7- Evaluation days are now displayed correctly on the tool bar. 8- Solved the problem where at times the open/closed icon of a network node would appear open at the wrong type. 9- Added licensing to dial-out sites. DIALUP ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the resource utilization problem where hanging up a dial connection would cause the manager to consume 100% of the CPU. TERMINAL EMULATION ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Changed default behaviour of the terminal emulator to NOT display the scroll bar history. This was done in order to improve performance. LICENSING ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Improved license file handling. INSTALLER ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Support was added for DoubleVision Internet Access Sever (IAS). 2- Improved input screens for LDAP support was provided. ***************************************************************** ******* THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.00 BETA-14 ******* *********************** April 4, 2003 **************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added the menu option Main->File->Passwords Which when selected allows the user to edit the password, if any for the current .ncn file. 2- When loading .ncn files, the user is now prompted for the password associated with said file, if there is one. 3- Changed the 'Other VNC' group title to be more detailed. 4- Additional security is now present where the user is reminded when saving a file that contains passwords, to in turn password protect the file proper. LICENSING ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Fixed a bug in the licensing where in an standard license state, if no licenses keys are found in the license file we continue to run in standard mode even though a valid license no longer exists. INSTALLER ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Misc error messages and dialog text were re-written to be more clear. FTP CLIENT CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- FIxed the problem where the help file system would not respond when selected by the user. PROCESSOR/CONNECTOR ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Improved error messaging system. CONNECTOR CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Added the ability to have the connector.exe establish a static route when starting in host mode. This is useful on Win95/98/Me to insure that a TCP route is available whenever host mode starts since they do not support permanent static routes. Under the main->Options->General Options dialog a new input dialog is present that allows user to select what nodes to display on the manager. 4- Fixed several bugs related to deletion of nodes and later preventing those nodes from being added. ****************************************************************** ***** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.00 BETA-4 ********** ********************** Feb 17, 2003 ****************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Changed all rerefences to the new company's url of www.tridia.com (before we were using www.doublevisionpro.com). 2- Solved the problem where if a user edited a Network or Dialup node, the U/I would not automatically know to prompt the user to save the changes. The effect would be that to the user it appears as if any changes made to a network or dial-up node never took place. 3- Solved the problem where if a new network is added from the U/I, it would not automically be added to the network scanner. The effect would be that nodes under the newly added network would not appear, unless the current topology was saved and then re-loaded. 4- Solved the problem where a 'duplicate' node could be introduced. If a user had a 'network' named 'abc' and a dialup-network named 123. Then the user could rename the network node from 'abc' to 123 without a problem. This would, later of course, cause confusion to the network topology software. Problem solved. 5- If you change the phone number in an existing dial-up node then the try to dial the phone number gets garbled. Problem solved. 6- The Manager nows handles DHCP Ip changes. When viewing, ftp'ing, telneting to a node, a check is made to see if the ip for that node has changed or not. If so the user is prompted to continue with the action. 7- The manager now 'probes' for the presence of a service before attempting to contact said service. Meaning that if a user were to view, ftp, telnet, etc, the manager first 'scans' ( on the fly ) to see if the node + service ( node ip + port number ) are listenining. If not, the user is informed and given a choice to continue. This solves the problem of a user seeing severe error messages appearing on the U/I when viewing a node is no longer present. The above solves the 'stale ip/node' problem as well. 8- Corrected automatic optimization settings for dialup to compression level 7 and JPEG compression level 3. 9- Solved additional popup menu positioning problems. 10- Solved the problem where if a user were to edit the dailup settings via the 'Advanced' input screens, any changes to the phone number and/or DHCP settings would not be reflected on the user interface. 11- Solved the corruption that would occur on the left hand side panel when different loads of network data was displayed. 12- fixed the problem where if the current node is a Unix node and the user selects to 'collapse', the action is ignored. 13- Same problem was fixed on the 'expand' side. 14- Solved null pointer exception that could occur under certain circumstances when a user created a 'new network'. VNCVIEWER CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Solved the problem where the viewer would lock up (sometimes) when copy and paste is being used. TELNET/TERMINAL EMULATOR ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Changed how prints screen is performed from a black to white background to conserve printer ink. 2- Fixed the "Print Screen" bug so that the menu option is now accessible. 3- Automatically center the print screen output on the printed page. 4- Resolved the problem of the TAB key being ignored. 5- Enabled the scrollback history to 100 lines. 6- Enabled by default scroll bar in all terminal emulations. DIALUP ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Enhanced logging. ****************************************************************** ***** THE FOLLOWING NOTES ARE FOR RELEASE 2.0.00 BETA-3 ********** ********************** Jan 24, 2003 ****************************** ****************************************************************** USER INTERFACE CHANGES ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Updated some of the icons. 2- Added automatic terminal type synchronization. 3- The scroll bar is now by default turned off on Crosstie for speed purposes. 4- Fixed additional pop up menu location issues. 5- Solved the problem where an 'edit' error would occur if the Advanced Dialup Settings editor was invoked, but we do not have a phone number. 6- Added support for ZRLE and AUTO encodings all through out the U/I. 7- Relaxed the rules applied when a user enters a new node. Before too extensive DNS check was being peformed so that it would prevent users from entering systems names which do not match their ip addresses. But for systems where dns is not present, we have relaxed the above rule. DIALUP ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- The Dial-Up authentication dialog box continues to dial the remote host when a user presses the [Enter] key. In the prior releases, the [Enter] key resulted in a cancelled operation. 2- Modified the U/I to check for non-optimal viewer session settings and then give the user to optimize them before viewing. INSTALLER ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Installer now handles the condition of when users install DV/WIN, DVPRO, or TVNCPro over each other. LICENSING ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Solved the problem where if a user upgrades from a 1.2 to 1.5 version of the product, no messages are displayed as to the fact that their product is not in eval mode. The installer, gui and other binaries now catch this and inform the user properly. 2- Improved notification if a user needs a license upgrade. CROSSTIE ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Fixed the problem where the cancel button would not work. 2- Installed the new proper DVPro icons on the display. 3- Fixed all help file related issues. 4- Solved the double echo problem that occured when viewing terminals. Users can assign dialup settings to Networks, Segments or indvidual nodes. ( See more on new dialup features ). 3- Added intelligence to the delete node operation such that it knows to prompt to user to disconnect from a the the remote host if connected via modem or connected via a remote control session. Also intelligence was provided to this operation such that if one where to delete a Network or segment or group node which in turn has a dial-out session and/or a remote control session that it prompts the user whether or to disconnect from said sessions. DIAL-UP NETWORKING SUPPORT ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1- Users can now right click any node on the U/I or from a pull down menu and then select to dial out to said Dialup Network. 2- Users can now add 'Dial-up' networks by selecting from the Main->Edit->Add Node->Dialup 3- User's are later able to edit the above information by merely selecting the 'Dial-up' network node and the by selecting the 'Edit' menu option. 4- Dial-up settings. Users can configure in many ways the remote network's PPP settings. Minimum amount of information is prompted by the user. Many safe defaults user. Primarly a phone number is all that is needed and whether or not the use DHCP for the PPP interface. If the remote server is configured to use PPP, then really only a phone number is needed to connect to said network. Unix terminal support ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- We have added Unix and Terminal nodes to the user interface. A new hierarchy has been implemented where users will see terminals appears under Unix host. Unix nodes can be saved to .ncn files. Terminal cannot as they are transient and are scanned for by the manager ( U/I ). User can modify, delete Unix nodes as any other nodes. Terminal nodes can be deleted, by not modified as they are really a reflection of what is running on the host unix node. User can view a vnc server on a Unix host, if there is one. Telnet support ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- Users can now right click any node on the U/I or from a pull down menu and then select to Telnet (and if need automatically dial out to said) host. Terminal Emulation. ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- A full blown terminal emulation package is now available within the user interface.
